Project Description
The Northern Adapted Flax Variety Development Project was carried out with the objective of developing flax varieties that could be profitably grown in regions north of the traditional flax production in Western Canada.
The Northern Adapted Flax Variety Development Project consisted of a variety development component and an agronomy component. The agronomy research was carried out with the objective of developing agronomic management recommendations for flax grown in northern areas for flax production.
The variety development component of the project resulted in one flax varieties being released. These varieties were WestLin60 from CPS.
The agronomic trials were carried out using flax lines developed from the variety development. The agronomic trials were carried out in 2014 and 2015 at two locations. The results of the agronomic trials were informative but did not result in conclusive recommendations for northern areas due to the limited data. Further agronomic trials are needed before developing agronomic management practice recommendations for non-traditional flax areas.
